On the whole, I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I am no stranger to Ms. Rinaldi's work, as I have read several of her novels. Cast Two Shadows did not disappoint me. The story line was clear and I was engaged with the story's heroine, Caroline. The story is set during the Revolutionary War. After witnessing her friends being captured and then hung, she finds herself a prisoner in her own home, with her Mother and snobby sister. With fear for her Father, who now sits in the town's prison, waiting for her Brother, Johnny, to return home and save them all. All the while attempting to understand some of the mysteries that abound with in her plantation home, Caroline finds out that there is more than a war going on between the British and the Colonist. There are secrets and relationships that will force her to look deep inside of herself and come to terms of who she really is.

I would not suggest that you purchase the Kindle version. There were many typos that at times inter-feared with the telling of the story. It was a true disservice to Ms. Rinaldi's work. I give it two stars because of Kindle mistakes and LACK of proof readers. In no way does this rating reflect on Ms. Rinaldi's work. I look forward to reading more of her stories and sharing them with my daughters.

Just what I wanted!
Good read
An excellent close up look into events of The American Revolution in the historic Camden, SC area through the eyes of a young woman. The history is real. This story is so well researched, its characters so well developed, and carefully based on their historical counterparts, I was sure I was reading the story of my own ancestors. This is a great read for lovers of history, especially the young who will be engrossed in the action. You will want more.
I bought this book for my 13 year old daughter for Christmas. She loves this author and loves to read. She likes that the books are based on actual historical events. She commented that several she has already read have had women who are demented or crazy in some way- she has grown sort of tired of this. So she wants me to take care in the stories I choose from this author.
I would recommend these historical books. I think it's great that kids can learn about history and not be board by it.
This book was exactly as expected. My daughter needed it for her Summer English Honors Assignment and it was delivered quickly and Cin brand new condition as expected. She loves this book.
I read this book because my daughter was reading it in school and needed help with a project. I was really surprised by how easy this was to read. Historical fiction with some real people mixed in made it entertaining and the dynamic between the characters made you think. I enjoyed this book immensely.
This novel does an excellent job of blending historical fact with fiction. Rinaldi brilliantly interweaves historical places, events, and characters with her story. The central figure Caroline, a 14 year old Patriot, struggles to find her place in the world. She witnesses her best friends death, her father being taken to jail, and her brother sent off to fight - all because of the revolution. Her world is torn apart because of external events but it will take what she learns about herself on the inside to bring it back together. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in history or looking for a good story.
