When live-in lover DCI James Langton is severely injured on a case, DI Anna Travis sets aside her thoughts of breaking up in order to care for him during his recovery. After going on leave for several months to care for Langton, exhausted from his mood swings, never-ending complaints, and obsession with finding his assailant, Anna returns to work on a new case.

Surprising everyone but himself, Langton comes roaring back to duty with a vengance intent on finding those who were involved in his near-death. Anna is surprised when he asks her to join his case.

In creating Anna, author Lynda La Plante plays the damaged heroine card with great success. With all her flaws, it is not difficult to understand and empathize with the myriad situations Anna finds herself involved, many times due to her own actions and reactions to what is happening around her.

The storyline is strong and the pacing steady. Along the way, there are plenty of surprises including a shocking ending that no one will see coming. La Plante is superb in laying out a quite gruesome plot and following the course of the investigation.

Fans will look forward to the next installment for further updates in the Travis/Langton relationship. Thankfully, La Plante continues to provide new stories in this marvelous series.

Clean Cut Lynda La Plante 9780743295727 Books Reviews

As someone who's spent years in law enforcement i love books about humanity and conscience versus law and justice. I finished this book and even while reading have pondered on these same issues. Can't wait. Read #4 in the series.
I enjoyed all the Anna Travis books. Good plot, characters and story telling. They’re books I can get involved in.
Compelling and well described characters. This police murder mystery captured my interest right away. There was enough complication for me to enjoy it until the end. Read several books by this author. Clean Cut is her second book with these two centrally characters that I've read. Enjoyed the contrast.
I have kind of read the Anna Travis mysteries backwards beginning with Bloodline. I almost prefer the earlier ones, but each is every good on character development as well as the suspense of gruesome murders. It's hard to stop reading once you begin. Suspect interrogation, investigation work, and police politics are all carefully woven into all of the Anna Travis mysteries. The true culprit(s) are always surprising. Fast paced with excellent writing make this a winning series.
She's gets better and better with her intuitive female detective, Anna Travis. No wonder LA Plante's books are made into Pbs Series.
Anna Travis is a compelling heroine and her on again- off again love relationship with DCI Langdon dominates this story which revolves around Langdon's all-out mission to find and revenge the multiple stabbings he received from an unidentified assailant. I found it difficult to like him as he uses lies and questionable police tactics to further his pursuit. Actually, I began to question why Anna keeps going back to him in spite of the shabby treatment he gives her. But, that is why the book is a fascinating read.
As developed by author Lynda Plante, Anna becomes a sympathetic figure even though I found myself wondering what she really sees in him other than some sexual attraction. Why doesn't she see how he is really using her? Early on you catch on to the fact that the killings, which are the main focus of the detective story, must be related to Langdon' suspicions and will ultimately lead to finding not only the killer but Langdon's assailant. In the process the police procedurals are spelled out in such detail, you are likely to feel as I did, they cause the book to lose some of its appeal. Nontheless, I recommend the book as a good read especially if you have enjoyed other Laplante stories.
This book, like the other Anna Travis books I've read (the third ), is well written. Although I find some of the names and characters confusing, with African immigrants and their names and the names they've changed them to in England, the story lines are interesting. Anna Travis and Langton, her boss/lover break up because of a horrendous injury he's suffered. He can't get over the trauma, and closes her out of his personal life. I do like the familiar characters that appear from book to book, the detectives that both of the main characters work with. And the different story lines in the book are always so different. (This book contains traces f voodoo, child abuse, illegal immigrant smuggling, and drug smuggling.) Well worth reading.
